David Mitsch  [deɪvɪd mɪtʃ ]

(he/him) is a CT/NYC-based designer, maker, performer, and educator. With an extensive design portfolio including scenic, hair/makeup, and props artistry, as well as a broad performance background spanning stage acting, musical theater, film, drag, clown, and mask work David has developed a keen insight into character development and how to collaboratively forge the unique world of any script or libretto into an exciting reality.

Recent design credits include Sometimes the Rain, Sometimes the Sea (The New School), Thebes (Rattlestick), 26 Miles (Gulfshore Playhouse), Love’s Labour’s Lost (Island Shakespeare Festival), Today is My Birthday (Yale Rep), Reykjavik, The Salt Women (Yale School of Drama), Tales for Winter (Yale Center for British Art) the moment before…Elon Musk and the Plan to Blow Up Mars: The Musical, Red Speedo, Burn Book, Avital, The Whale in the Hudson, Dragaret (Yale Cabaret), Everybody (Yale Dramatic Association). 

David’s wig and makeup design has been seen at Carnegie Hall, Skirball Center, Town Hall, Ensemble Studio Theater, The New Ohio (NYC) Yale Rep, Yale Cabaret (New Haven, CT), Bord Gáis Energy Theatre (Dublin).

As an educator David's teaching style is a vibrant and immersive journey into the world of global theatrical design. With a unique and multifaceted approach, he intertwines script analysis, historical research, design principles, and acting tools to create a holistic learning experience. Through his dynamic classes, students not only master the fundamentals of design but also gain a deep understanding of the cultural and historical contexts that shape any production. With a passion for storytelling, David's teaching style is a theatrical adventure where creativity, knowledge, and performance seamlessly come together.

David holds a MFA in Acting from the American Repertory Theater / Moscow Art Theater Institute for Advanced Theatre Training at Harvard University, and a MFA in Costume Design from the Yale School of Drama where he was the recipient of The Zelma Weisfeld Scholarship for Costume Design
